    Smith-Harris House ~ An Afternoon with the Belsnickel

    An Afternoon with the Belsnickel on December 10th
    2 pm; Admission: non-perishable food item to benefit Care & Share of East Lyme, Inc. Escape the frenzy of holiday preparations and join us for family-friendly festivities! Children are welcome to make a tree ornament, join musician Judy MacDonald around a cozy fire to sing carols, and meet our kindly Belsnickel, as he shares a winter’s tale and hands out a treat to each of our young visitors! Then, enjoy a sip of cocoa and gingersnaps. A “Belsnickel,” or “St. Nicholas in fur,” was a German folk tradition that preceded the modern Santa Claus, and our Belsnickel will share a winter’s tale and hand out a treat to each of our young visitors!     Come join the fun at the scenic McCook Point Beach and Park on Saturday, Dec. 10th for a scenic, festive Niantic Jingle Bell 5K walk/run in support of the Brian T. Dagle Memorial Foundation.

    10:00 - 5K Walk & Run will begin
    11:00 - Overall & Age Group awards

    Niantic / East Lyme Light Parade (Saturday night)

    SAVE THE DATE as New England's largest and brightest Light Parade will return for 2016.
    Celebrating its 28th anniversary in 2016, the Annual East Lyme / Niantic Light Parade is the largest holiday light parade in all of New England, and maybe one of the most unique events you will find anywhere.
    The 2016 Niantic/East Lyme Light Parade will be held on
    Saturday night December 10th at 6:00 p.m.
    (with a Rain Date of Sunday, December 11th at 5:00 p.m.)

    Countdown to Noon ~ Children's Museum of SECT

    What's the ONLY New Year's event for children and families in southeastern Connecticut? The Children's Museum's annual Countdown to Noon! Thanks to our event partner, East Lyme Parks & Recreation, the celebration is moving to East Lyme Community Center, 37 Society Rd., Niantic, CT.
    The fun happens on New Years Eve: December 31, 10:00am - 2:00pm Explore the constellations with StarLab. Build, create, imagine with "Lets Get Building." "Crazy Science" and activities galore! Storytelling with the Children's Librarians of East Lyme Public Library. Balloons drop at Noon and activities continue until 2:00 pm.

    10th Annual O'Niantic 5k Run, Walk, Jig or Jog

    Come on! Kick up your heels and shake off those mid-winter blues and join us for the 10th Annual O'Niantic 5K Run, Walk, Jig or Jog. This Niantic, East Lyme event is considered by many a moving party and will take participants through the quaint village of Niantic and its beautiful beachfront. You’ll fall in love with this 5K race and the post race food all charmed with a little o'luck of the Irish.
    So, don’t pay any attention to the thermometer – lace up those shoes and be on the starting line on Saturday, March 18th beginning at 8:30 a.m.
    The run will start and end on Methodist St., Niantic CT.

    10th Annual Touch-A-Truck Event

    On Saturday, May 20, 2017 (rain date Sunday), the East Lyme Auxiliary of Child and Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut and the East Lyme Parks and Recreation Department will again co-sponsor the 10th annual Touch-A-Truck event. This is a family event that will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at McCook Point Park in Niantic, CT.
    An event not to be missed, the Touch-A-Truck experience is for one and all, big and small, spend some time with us and have yourself a ball. It’s an educational experience that will make you a “hero” with your child/grandchild. Children can climb various vehicles, sit in the driver’s seat and discover the world of trucks. They will be able to reach the sky in a cherry picker, see, touch, and interact with big trucks and learn their functions. This unique event will feature large trucks and heavy equipment from law enforcement, fire departments, commercial companies, industrial companies and rental companies.

    In addition to the above, face painting for the children will be offered. The can paint their faces to be, a Clown, a Pirate, or a Fairy Princess, and then adorn your hair with feathers or beads! There will also be hair painting for the adventurous including Hair Beads and Colored Hair Spray Painting. Children will also be able to participate in the favorite activities of Ring Toss, Bean Bag Toss, Hula Hoops, and Bubbles. There will also be coloring of puzzle trucks and wooden pieces.

    Vehicle demonstrations will be conducted and we never know just who might make an appearance. In addition there will be face painting and craft activities for the children as well as a free photo-op. Refreshments will be available for sale.
    There will be a $4.00 per person donation (ages 3 and up) to benefit the Child and Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut.

    Memorial Day & Parade (Monday, May 29, 2017)

    The annual East Lyme Memorial Day Parade provides an opportunity for patriotic Americans to come together and honor those who have sacrificed so much in service to our country.
    The parade will be held on Monday, May 29th beginning at 2:00 p.m., will begin near St. John's Green (across from the Children's Museum of Southeastern CT.), and will proceed down Niantic's Main St. ending at the East Lyme Town Hall.
    The parade celebrates all those who have served in uniform from the American Revolution to Operation Iraqi Freedom, and will reflect on those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

    Niantic Bay 10k/run & 5k/walk Road Race

    The Annual Niantic Bay 10k/run road race and 5k/walk will be held on Friday, June 9th beginning at 5:30 pm. The 10K course starts just outside McCook's Point Park entrance on Atlantic Street. This 6.2 mile race course is mostly flat with a few small hills and travels through local neighborhoods. The 5K walk is a 3.1 mile fun walk that generally starts about 15 minutes before the 10K Run.   • Niantic Farmer's Market - Every Thursday Afternoon

    Come join the fun as Niantic Main Street hosts their 8th season of the Niantic Farmers' Market. The market features local vendors who fill the market space (i.e., Methodist St) as they do every year with an array of fresh and local produce, pies, breads, plants, herbs, greens, hummus, pork, jams, jellies, prepared foods, native wool, coffee, fresh-filled cannoli's and much, much more.
    The Niantic Farmers Market located on Methodist Street between Pro Tek Auto and Niantic Cinemas and will run every Thursday from 3 to 6:00 p.m. until October 12th.

    39th Annual LobsterFest and
      57th Annual Juried Arts & Craft Show

    Come support the Niantic Lions Club as they once again sponsor their Annual LobsterFest and Chicken BBQ. Lobsterfest 2017 will be held on July 1st (Saturday from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm) and July 2nd (Sunday from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm). Located on the East Lyme Town Hall grounds (Pennsylvania Ave.), this annual Niantic summer tradition is sure to kick start your summer.

    In addition to the above Niantic Lions LobsterFest and Chicken BBQ, the 57th Annual Juried Arts and Craft Show will also be held at the same location, on the same dates and same times. Admission to the Arts & Crafts show is free, and over 180 vendors are expected to be at the show.

    Carnival on Green

    Come One!  Come All!   In conjunction with the Celebrate East Lyme festivities, the Carnival comes to town complete with games and rides for folks of all ages along with delectable Carnival Treats. Tickets for rides and amusements may be purchased on the day(s) you attend the carnival. Sponsored by St. John's Episcopal Church, the Carnival is its largest annual fundraiser supporting community outreach programs.
    The Carnival on St. John's Green will take place on:
        Friday (July 14th) from 6 pm till 10 pm
        Saturday (July 15th) from 3 pm till 10 pm
        Sunday (July 16th) from noon pm till 5 pm

    Niantic Bay Triathlon

    East Lyme will once again serve as host site for the 2017 Niantic Bay Triathlon. The triathlon will be held on Sunday, August 6th beginning at 07:30 a.m. and features a 1/2 mile swim, 12-mile bike, and a 3.5 mile run through scenic East Lyme with water views and shaded streets. The Niantic Bay Triathlon is a flat, sprint distance race. Come support the athletes, shop for that special gift and dine at one of our many great shoreline restaurants in town.

    4th Annual Black Sheep Oyster Festival

    Mark your calendars for the 4th Annual Black Sheep Oyster Festival. If you thought prior year's events were great, this year's event promises to be bigger and better. This relatively new end-of-summer Niantic event is sure to be another crowd pleaser with local Oyster Farmers onsite, Oyster Shucking Contest, Irish Step Dancers, Oyster inspired menu items, Guinness Pint Specials, Live Music, Prizes & Giveaways and a whole lot more. This year's Black Sheep Guinness Oyster Festival takes place on Saturday, September 23, 2017 beginning at 12:00 noon at The Black Sheep Irish Pub located at 247 Main St., Niantic.

    Niantic Village Halloween Parade

    Come one, come all, to one of the most highly entertaining events in town ~ the annual Niantic Village Halloween Parade.
    The fun will start on Sunday, October 29th, 2017 beginning at 1:00 p.m., when children are welcome to browse the downtown shops for "Tricks and Treats".
    Among the parade's signature highlights is the always popular Halloween Parade which will begin at 2:00 p.m.. Children should gather at Hole-in-the-Wall beach parking lot (which is where the parade begins). Candy for the kids and costume prizes will be awarded.
    This event is sponsored by the East Lyme Parks & Rec Dept. along with promotional support of the Niantic Main Street organization and the downtown Niantic local businesses who donate candy and snacks for the children.     Come honor and remember our veterans at a Veterans Day Observance on Friday, November 10, 2017. Festivities will begin at 10:00 a.m. on the Liberty Green (downtown Niantic - corner of Main St. and Pennsylvania Ave.). In the event of rain, the vigil will move to the American Legion facility on York Ave.

    14th Annual Holiday Stroll

    Come kick-start your holiday season in Niantic at the 14th Annual Niantic Main Street Holiday Stroll. This family-friendly day features:
    - horse-drawn carriage rides,

    - holiday music and complimentary hot cider and cocoa on the town green,
    - children's arts, crafts and games,
    - the 2nd Annual Chili Cook-off,
    - a Smore Station,
    - a "Snow-Flake Drop" featuring discounts and giveaways to local shops and restaurants, and last, but not least,
    - the arrival of Santa on a shiny red fire truck just in time for the annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony beginning at 5:00 pm on Liberty Green in the heart of Niantic Village.
