    1st Annual Black Sheep Oyster Festival

    Mark your calendars for the 1st Annual Black Sheep Oyster Festival. This new end-of-summer Niantic is sure to be another crowd pleaser with live entertainment, an Oyster Shucking contest, prizes, giveaways and a whole lot more. The fun takes place on Saturday, September 27, 2014 beginning at noon at The Black Sheep Irish Pub located at 247 Main St., Niantic. Note: the first 100 people who arrive will receive a special engraved commemorative Guinness Gravity Glass. We hope to see you there!!!

    “A Toast to our Textiles” The Smith-Harris House Commission and Friends of Smith-Harris House invite you to stop by and discover the dynamic changes happening within the House! View our just-installed textiles closet, along with a small display of 19th-century clothes, as well as two newly-designed historic rooms: a sewing room and Thomas Avery’s office. Enjoy sparkling cider and nibbles inspired by historic recipes. At 7 pm, head over to the East Lyme Public Library for their program featuring the textiles and fashions of a century earlier!

    Niantic Village Halloween Parade

    Come one, come all, to one of the most highly entertaining events in town ~ the annual Niantic Halloween Parade.
    Sponsored by the East Lyme Business Organization and the East Lyme Parks & Rec. Dept., the parade will take place on Sunday, October 26, 2014 beginning at 1:00 p.m., when children are welcome to browse the downtown shops for "Tricks and Treats".
    Among the parade's signature features is the always popular Halloween Parade which will begin at 2:00 p.m. (starting at Hole-in-the-Wall)
    Candy for the kids and costume prizes to be awarded.

    Veterans Day Observation

    Come honor and remember our veterans at a Veterans Day Observance on Tuesday, November 11, 2014. Festivities will begin at 10:00 a.m. on the Liberty Green (downtown Niantic - corner of Main St. and Pennsylvania Ave.). In the event of rain, the vigil will move to the American Legion facility on York Ave.

    11th Annual Holiday Stroll

    Come kick-start your holiday season in Niantic at the 11th Annual Niantic Main Street Holiday Stroll. This family-friendly day features horse-drawn carriage rides, professional holiday carolers strolling the quaint shop-lined streets of Niantic, complimentary hot cider and cocoa on the green, a "Snow-Flake Drop" featuring discounts and giveaways at local shops and restaurants, and last, but not least, the arrival of Santa on a shiny red fire truck just in time for a tree lighting ceremony beginning at 5:00 pm on Liberty Green in the heart of Niantic Village.
    The fun takes place on Saturday, November 29th from 3:00 – 7:00 pm.

    Children can bring their yearly letters and wish lists to Santa for bringing back to the North Pole, or they can stop in to the Children's Museum to craft their letter. Visits with Santa are free; parents are encouraged to bring a camera to capture the moment.

    The day also provides a great opportunity to begin your holiday shopping as many of the local businesses will be open offering holiday sales and discounts. So, come early and escape the big box malls and crowed parking lots and help support the small and local merchants who make shopping small ~ BIG!   Join us and support small business!
    Volunteers and local merchants will once again join forces to capture the spirit of the season in this picturesque small-town celebration. Stroll organizers will again provide the local merchant “Snowball Drop” which provides snow ball recipients to special doscounts and offers at local businesses.

    It’s a rare occasion when almost everyone gets to be a ‘winner’ and it’s just a lot of fun for the strollers and the retailers. Throughout the evening, local businesses and restaurants will offer refreshments and special discounts and giveaways. Additional children’s activities and crafts will be coordinated by East Lyme Youth Services.

    26th Annual Niantic Light Parade & Winterfest 2014

    After celebrating its 25th anniversary last year (in 2013), one might ask how the Annual East Lyme Winterfest & Light Parade could get any better. And well, this extremely popular regional event and its organizers seem to take it up a step each and every year.
    The 26th Annual Niantic Light Parade & Winterfest will once again be held on a Saturday afternoon/night on December 6th. The day will start with the 2014 Winterfest beginning at 2:00 pm on Main St. This prelude to the parade, typically features a popular Chowder & Chili Cook-off, Pictures with Santa, Magic Shows, Face Painting, Horse Drawn Carriage Rides, Ice Sculptures and much, much more!
    Then, Fireworks are expected to once again kick off the Light Parade which features beautifully built and lighted parade floats, dance groups and Santa himself as they parade down the beautifully decorated Main St. in Niantic.
    So come early, shop for holiday gifts in the unique gift shops throughout town or dine at one of the many East Lyme restaurants. It's a day your entire family and friends will enjoy - guaranteed!
