    Beer for Beauty ~ Beer Tasting Event

    Come join the fun on Saturday April 26th from 7:00 pm till 9:00 pm at Smith’s Acres (4 West main St., Niantic) as the Niantic Main Street organization hosts the Beer for Beauty ~ Beer Tasting event. Not only will you have a great time connecting with friends and locals, you will also be helping raise monies for continued town-wide beautification efforts. Tickets will go on sale on April 1 for $20 if purchased prior to the event and $25 if purchased at the door. The number of tickets will be limited, and this may be a sold-out event.     East Lyme Puppetry Project, Inc. Kicks Off 2014 Season
    with “Shadow Puppets Around the World

    What do Indonesians, Aztecs and the Appalachian Hill people have common? They all share a rich heritage of great entertainment through shadow puppetry! Join The East Lyme Puppetry Project, Inc. (ELPPI) for stories from these countries and more at “Shadow Puppets Around the World,” presented by renowned puppeteer, Jim Napolitano at 1:30PM Saturday, May 10, at the East Lyme Community Center. The program kicks off ELPPI’s 2014 season of shows, lectures and educational workshops.
    The Project’s community programs provide families with great entertainment and an enriching cultural experience all in one package and a real asset to our community.
    The schedule includes three shows for intergenerational audiences, and one special presentation for adults and students by Professor John Bell, Director of UCONN’s Ballard Institute for Puppetry. There is a suggested donation of $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children under 12 for each community show. Dr. Bell’s presentation is sponsored by East Lyme Library and is free of charge.

    7th Annual Touch-A-Truck Event

    On Saturday, May 17, 2014 (rain date Sunday), the East Lyme Auxiliary of Child and Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut and the East Lyme Parks and Recreation Department will co-sponsor their 7th annual Touch-A-Truck event. This is a family event that will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at McCook Point Park in Niantic, CT.
    An event not to be missed, the Touch-A-Truck experience is for one and all, big and small, spend some time with us and have yourself a ball. It’s an educational experience that will make you a “hero” with your child/grandchild. Children can climb various vehicles, sit in the driver’s seat and discover the world of trucks. They will be able to reach the sky in a cherry picker, see, touch, and interact with big trucks and learn their functions. This unique event will feature large trucks and heavy equipment from law enforcement, fire departments, commercial companies, industrial companies and rental companies.
    Vehicle demonstrations will be conducted and we never know just who might make an appearance. In addition there will be face painting and craft activities for the children as well as a free photo-op. Refreshments will be available for sale.
    There will be a $4.00 per person donation (ages 3 and up) to benefit the Child and Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut.

    Memorial Day Parade

    The annual East Lyme Memorial Day Parade provides an opportunity for patriotic Americans to come together and honor those who have sacrificed so much in service to our country.
    The parade will be held on Monday, May 26th beginning at 2:00 p.m., will begin near St. John's Green (across from the Children's Museum of Southeastern CT.), and will proceed down Niantic's Main St. ending at the East Lyme Town Hall.
    The parade celebrates all those who have served in uniform from the American Revolution to Operation Iraqi Freedom, and will reflect on those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

    CT (and Niantic / East Lyme) Open House Day

    Niantic’s three historic house museums, the Smith-Harris House, the Thomas Lee House, and the Samuel Smith House, invite you to discover the town’s rich history through the lives of the families who once called the East Lyme area home! Each historic house will be open for tours, along with special programs unique to each museum, some of which includes open-hearth cooking demonstrations, children’s games on the lawn, reenactors, farm animals, spinning demonstrations, and historically-inspired refreshments! Get your “Passport to History” stamped at all three museums to be entered in a drawing to win a gift basket!     In addition to the above historical venues, the Children's Museum of SECT is offering $2 off admission for Connecticut residents. To qualify for the Children's Museum of SECT, at least one person in each visiting group must show a valid Connecticut driver’s license.
    So come check out why Niantic and East Lyme were voted "Connecticut's Fan Favorite Town" during the CT. Open House Day.

    36th Annual LobsterFest and
      54th Annual Juried Arts & Craft Show

    Come support the Niantic Lions Club as they once again sponsor their Annual LobsterFest and Chicken BBQ. Lobsterfest 2014 will be held on July 5th (Saturday from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm) and July 6th (Sunday from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm). Located on the East Lyme Town Hall grounds (Pennsylvania Ave.), this annual Niantic summer tradition is sure to kick start your summer.

    In addition to the above Niantic Lions LobsterFest and Chicken BBQ, the 54th Annual Juried Arts and Craft Show will also be held at the same location, on the same dates and same times. Admission to the Arts & Crafts show is free, and over 180 vendors are expected to be at the show.

    Celebrate East Lyme 2014

    The 14th Annual Celebrate East Lyme Festival will be held
    on Saturday, July 19, 2014.
    The Town of East Lyme will once again transform it's waterfront Main Street in the seaside village of Niantic into their annual Bash by the Bay !
    Niantic's Main St. will close to vehicular traffic (beginning at 3:00 p.m.) which will then be filled by over 200 local vendors offering food, fun and entertainment for everyone!  Festivities will include live music and performances, cooking demonstrations & tastings, an Art & Author walk, children's area and so much more!
    Additionally, the East Lyme Parks & Recreation Department will again host a Sand Castle competition and the always popular Great Niantic Bay Raft Races. And last, but not least, the day will conclude with a spectacular fireworks show over the beautiful Niantic Bay.
    Again, the fun takes place on Saturday, July 20th in downtown Niantic.

    Niantic Bay Triathlon

    East Lyme will once again serve as host site for the 2014 Niantic Bay Triathlon. The triathlon will be held on Sunday, August 3rd beginning at 07:30 a.m. and features a 1/2 mile swim, 12-mile bike, and a 3.5 mile run through scenic East Lyme with water views and shaded streets. The Niantic Bay Triathlon is a flat, sprint distance race. Come support the athletes, shop for that special gift and dine at one of our many great shoreline restaurants in town.

    Niantic Village Halloween Parade

    Come one, come all, to one of the most highly entertaining events in town ~ the annual Niantic Halloween Parade.
    Sponsored by the East Lyme Business Organization and the East Lyme Parks & Rec. Dept., the parade will take place on Sunday, October 27, 2013 beginning at 1:00 p.m., when children are welcome to browse the downtown shops for "Tricks and Treats".
    Among the parade's signature features is the always popular Halloween Parade which will begin at 2:00 p.m. (starting at Hole-in-the-Wall)

    11th Annual Holiday Stroll

    Come kick-start your holiday season in Niantic at the 11th Annual Niantic Main Street Holiday Stroll. This family-friendly day features horse-drawn carriage rides, professional holiday carolers strolling the quaint shop-lined streets of Niantic, complimentary hot cider and cocoa on the green, a "Snow-Flake Drop" featuring discounts and giveaways at local shops and restaurants, and last, but not least, the arrival of Santa on a shiny red fire truck just in time for a tree lighting ceremony beginning at 5:00 pm on Liberty Green in the heart of Niantic Village.
    The fun takes place on Saturday, November 29th from 3:00 – 7:00 pm.

    Children can bring their yearly letters and wish lists to Santa for bringing back to the North Pole, or they can stop in to the Children's Museum to craft their letter. Visits with Santa are free; parents are encouraged to bring a camera to capture the moment.

    The day also provides a great opportunity to begin your holiday shopping as many of the local businesses will be open offering holiday sales and discounts. So, come early and escape the big box malls and crowed parking lots and help support the small and local merchants who make shopping small ~ BIG!   Join us and support small business!
    Volunteers and local merchants will once again join forces to capture the spirit of the season in this picturesque small-town celebration. Stroll organizers will again provide the local merchant “Snowball Drop” which provides snow ball recipients to special doscounts and offers at local businesses.

    It’s a rare occasion when almost everyone gets to be a ‘winner’ and it’s just a lot of fun for the strollers and the retailers. Throughout the evening, local businesses and restaurants will offer refreshments and special discounts and giveaways. Additional children’s activities and crafts will be coordinated by East Lyme Youth Services.

    26th Annual Niantic Light Parade & Winterfest 2014

    After celebrating its 25th anniversary last year (in 2013), one might ask how the Annual East Lyme Winterfest & Light Parade could get any better. And well, this extremely popular regional event and its organizers seem to take it up a step each and every year.
    The 26th Annual Niantic Light Parade & Winterfest will once again be held on a Saturday afternoon/night on December 6th. The day will start with the 2014 Winterfest beginning at 2:00 pm on Main St. This prelude to the parade, typically features a popular Chowder & Chili Cook-off, Pictures with Santa, Magic Shows, Face Painting, Horse Drawn Carriage Rides, Ice Sculptures and much, much more!
    Then, Fireworks are expected to once again kick off the Light Parade which features beautifully built and lighted parade floats, dance groups and Santa himself as they parade down the beautifully decorated Main St. in Niantic.
    So come early, shop for holiday gifts in the unique gift shops throughout town or dine at one of the many East Lyme restaurants. It's a day your entire family and friends will enjoy - guaranteed!
