    Countdown to Noon ~ Children's Museum of SECT

    What's the ONLY New Year's event for children and families in southeastern Connecticut? The Children's Museum's annual Countdown to Noon! Thanks to our event partner, East Lyme Parks & Recreation, the celebration is moving to East Lyme Community Center, 37 Society Rd., Niantic, CT.
    The fun happens on New Years Eve: December 31, 9:30am - 4:00pm Explore the constellations with StarLab. Build, create, imagine with "Lets Get Building." "Crazy Science" and activities galore! Storytelling with the Children's Librarians of East Lyme Public Library. Balloons drop at Noon and activities continue until 4!

    POTLUCK PARTY FOR PRESERVATIONISTS

    Come join East Lyme's Preservationists for their "POTLUCK PARTY FOR PRESERVATIONISTS" get-together on January 9th, 6-8pm at the Niantic Community Church, 170 Pennsylvania Ave., Niantic, CT.
    Bring a main dish OR a dessert and hear what various groups are doing to help preserve portions of East Lyme. Members from EL Agribusiness; Conservation Comm.; Historic Properties Comm; Historical Society; Smith-Harris Comm.; Friends of Samuel Smith Farmstead; EL Land Trust;Friends of Oswegatchie Hills and others will give a brief overview of recent effort s to preserve agriculture, open space land, protect drinking water, historic houses, create hiking trails, in East Lyme.     8th Annual O'Niantic 5k Run, Walk, Jig or Jog

    Come on! Kick up your heels and shake off those mid-winter blues and join us for the 8th Annual O'Niantic 5K Run, Walk, Jig or Jog. This Niantic, East Lyme event is considered by many a moving party and will take participants through the quaint village of Niantic and its beautiful beachfront. You’ll fall in love with this 5K race and the post race food all charmed with a little o'luck of the Irish.
    So, don’t pay any attention to the thermometer – lace up those shoes and be on the starting line on Saturday, March 21st beginning at 8:30 a.m.
    The run will start and end on Methodist St., Niantic CT.

    8th Annual Touch-A-Truck Event

    On Saturday, May 16, 2015 (rain date Sunday), the East Lyme Auxiliary of Child and Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut and the East Lyme Parks and Recreation Department will co-sponsor their 8th annual Touch-A-Truck event. This is a family event that will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at McCook Point Park in Niantic, CT.
    An event not to be missed, the Touch-A-Truck experience is for one and all, big and small, spend some time with us and have yourself a ball. It’s an educational experience that will make you a “hero” with your child/grandchild. Children can climb various vehicles, sit in the driver’s seat and discover the world of trucks. They will be able to reach the sky in a cherry picker, see, touch, and interact with big trucks and learn their functions. This unique event will feature large trucks and heavy equipment from law enforcement, fire departments, commercial companies, industrial companies and rental companies.
    Vehicle demonstrations will be conducted and we never know just who might make an appearance. In addition there will be face painting and craft activities for the children as well as a free photo-op. Refreshments will be available for sale.
    There will be a $4.00 per person donation (ages 3 and up) to benefit the Child and Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut.

    Memorial Day Parade

    The annual East Lyme Memorial Day Parade provides an opportunity for patriotic Americans to come together and honor those who have sacrificed so much in service to our country.
    The parade will be held on Monday, May 25th beginning at 2:00 p.m., will begin near St. John's Green (across from the Children's Museum of Southeastern CT.), and will proceed down Niantic's Main St. ending at the East Lyme Town Hall.
    The parade celebrates all those who have served in uniform from the American Revolution to Operation Iraqi Freedom, and will reflect on those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

    Niantic Bay 10k/run & 5k/walk Road Race

    The Annual Niantic Bay 10k/run road race and 5k/walk will be held on Friday, June 12th beginning at 5:30 pm. The 10K course starts just outside McCook's Point Park entrance on Atlantic Street. This 6.2 mile race course is mostly flat with a few small hills and travels through local neighborhoods. The 5K walk is a 3.1 mile fun walk that generally starts about 15 minutes before the 10K Run.     Connecticut Open House Day

    East Lyme's three historic house museums invite you to discover the town’s rich history through the lives of the families who once called the East Lyme area home. Each historic house will be open for tours, along with special programs unique to each museum, including open-hearth cooking demonstrations, children’s games on the lawn, reenactors, farm animals, spinning demonstrations, and historically- inspired refreshments! Bus service will be provided from museum to museum, with Town Historian Elizabeth Kuchta on board to discuss local history. Get your “Passport to History” stamped at all three museums to be entered in a drawing to win a gift basket.

  • Niantic Farmer's Market - Opens June 25th!

    Come join the fun as Niantic kicks off the 6th season of the Niantic Farmers' Market! Local vendors will fill the market space as they do every year with an array of fresh and local produce, pies, breads, plants, herbs, greens, hummus, pork, jams, jellies, prepared foods, native wool, coffee, fresh-filled cannoli's and much, much more.
    The Niantic Farmers Market is located on Methodist Street between Pro Tek Auto and Niantic Cinemas and will run every Thursday from 3 to 6:30 p.m. until October 8th.

    37th Annual LobsterFest and
      55th Annual Juried Arts & Craft Show

    Come support the Niantic Lions Club as they once again sponsor their Annual LobsterFest and Chicken BBQ. Lobsterfest 2014 will be held on July 4th (Saturday from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm) and July 5th (Sunday from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm). Located on the East Lyme Town Hall grounds (Pennsylvania Ave.), this annual Niantic summer tradition is sure to kick start your summer.

    In addition to the above Niantic Lions LobsterFest and Chicken BBQ, the 55th Annual Juried Arts and Craft Show will also be held at the same location, on the same dates and same times. Admission to the Arts & Crafts show is free, and over 180 vendors are expected to be at the show.

    Carnival on Green

    Come One!  Come All!   In conjunction with the Celebrate East Lyme festivities, the Carnival comes to town complete with games and rides for folks of all ages along with delectable Carnival Treats. Tickets for rides and amusements may be purchased on the day(s) you attend the carnival. Sponsored by St. John's Episcopal Church, the Carnival is its largest annual fundraiser supporting community outreach programs.
    The Carnival on St. John's Green will take place on:
        Friday (July 17th) from 6 pm till 10 pm
        Saturday (July 18th) from 3 pm till 10 pm
        Sunday (July 19th) from noon pm till 5 pm

    Celebrate East Lyme 2015

    The 15th Annual Celebrate East Lyme Festival will be held
    on Saturday, July 18th.
    The Town of East Lyme will once again transform it's waterfront Main Street in the seaside village of Niantic into their annual Bash by the Bay !
    Niantic's Main St. will close to vehicular traffic (beginning at 3:00 p.m.) which will then be filled by over 200 local vendors offering food, fun and entertainment for everyone!  Festivities will include live music and performances, cooking demonstrations & tastings, an Art & Author walk, children's area and so much more!
    Additionally, the East Lyme Parks & Recreation Department will again host a Sand Castle competition and the always popular Great Niantic Bay Raft Races. And last, but not least, the day will conclude with a spectacular fireworks show over the beautiful Niantic Bay.
    Again, the fun takes place on Saturday, July 18th in downtown Niantic.

    Niantic Bay Triathlon

    East Lyme will once again serve as host site for the 2015 Niantic Bay Triathlon. The triathlon will be held on Sunday, August 2nd beginning at 07:30 a.m. and features a 1/2 mile swim, 12-mile bike, and a 3.5 mile run through scenic East Lyme with water views and shaded streets. The Niantic Bay Triathlon is a flat, sprint distance race. Come support the athletes, shop for that special gift and dine at one of our many great shoreline restaurants in town.

    2nd Annual Black Sheep Oyster Festival

    Mark your calendars for the 2nd Annual Black Sheep Oyster Festival. If you thought last year's event was great, just wait for this year's event which promises to be bigger and better than last years. This new end-of-summer Niantic event is sure to be another crowd pleaser with live entertainment, an Oyster Shucking contest, prizes, giveaways and a whole lot more. The fun will take place on Saturday, September 26, 2015 beginning at noon at The Black Sheep Irish Pub located at 247 Main St., Niantic.     Niantic Village Halloween Parade

    Come one, come all, to one of the most highly entertaining events in town ~ the annual Niantic Halloween Parade.
    Sponsored by the East Lyme Business Organization and the East Lyme Parks & Rec. Dept., the parade will take place on Sunday, October 25, 2015 beginning at 1:00 p.m., when children are welcome to browse the downtown shops for "Tricks and Treats".
    Among the parade's signature features is the always popular Halloween Parade which will begin at 2:00 p.m. (starting at Hole-in-the-Wall)

    12th Annual Holiday Stroll

    Come kick-start your holiday season in Niantic at the 12th Annual Niantic Main Street Holiday Stroll. This family-friendly day features horse-drawn carriage rides, professional holiday carolers strolling the quaint shop-lined streets of Niantic, complimentary hot cider and cocoa on the green, a "Snow-Flake Drop" featuring discounts and giveaways at local shops and restaurants, and last, but not least, the arrival of Santa on a shiny red fire truck just in time for a tree lighting ceremony beginning at 5:00 pm on Liberty Green in the heart of Niantic Village.
    The fun takes place on Saturday, November 28th from 3:00 – 7:00 pm.

    Children can bring their yearly letters and wish lists to Santa for bringing back to the North Pole, or they can stop in to the Children's Museum to craft their letter. Visits with Santa are free; parents are encouraged to bring a camera to capture the moment.

    The day also provides a great opportunity to begin your holiday shopping as many of the local businesses will be open offering holiday sales and discounts. So, come early and escape the big box malls and crowed parking lots and help support the small and local merchants who make shopping small ~ BIG!   Join us and support small business!
    Volunteers and local merchants will once again join forces to capture the spirit of the season in this picturesque small-town celebration. Stroll organizers will again provide the local merchant “Snowball Drop” which provides snow ball recipients to special doscounts and offers at local businesses.

    It’s a rare occasion when almost everyone gets to be a ‘winner’ and it’s just a lot of fun for the strollers and the retailers. Throughout the evening, local businesses and restaurants will offer refreshments and special discounts and giveaways. Additional children’s activities and crafts will be coordinated by East Lyme Youth Services.

    Niantic / East Lyme Light Parade

    Celebrating its 27th anniversary in 2015, the Annual East Lyme / Niantic Light Parade is the largest holiday light parade in all of New England, and maybe one of the most unique events you will find anywhere.
    The Niantic / East Lyme Light Parade will once again be held on a Saturday night on December 5th.
