Summer Suppers at the Niantic Community Church
Spiritual feasts are not the only one’s being served up at Niantic Community Church this summer. Scrumptious culinary delights will be created in the kitchen at NCC this summer as they have been every year since 1966. The savory tradition of summer suppers gets underway with the first one of four, scheduled Tuesday, July 1st.
Attracting people from all over the community, with a healthy draw of seniors, hungry folks line up as much as 45 minutes prior to seating to get their tickets which go on sale at 5:00 p.m. and serve in excess of 300 people each night.
A small army of volunteers at NCC prepare the “all you can eat” meal that is served family style. The menu hasn’t changed much although originally roast beef was the only entree. The health conscious alternative, turkey was added to balance out the menu. Folks can count on mashed potatoes and gravy, veggies, cole slaw, bread, drinks and of course, plain old fashioned goodness, a selection of “home originated” pies to round out the meal. The cost this year for adults is $9 and $4 for children under 12. Meals can be taken “to go,” or folks can dine indoors or at outside tables. Summer Suppers this year are scheduled Tuesdays, July 1st, July 15th, July 29th and August 12th with seatings at 5:30 and 6:30 or get it to go anytime between 5:30 and 7:00 p.m.- August 12, 2008
